Vanilla Sword Blocking is a lightweight server side datapack or plugin for Minecraft Java Edition that restores the familiar sword blocking mechanic from Minecraft 1.8. Hold a sword and use the block action to visibly raise it, slowing your character while reducing incoming damage by 50 percent. It supports every standard sword and most modded swords, making it useful for classic PvP, survival combat, and custom minigames.
The feature works entirely on the Minecraft server, so players do not need a client mod. It uses modern item behavior to reproduce the old animation and defensive effect, giving our BoxToPlay servers a nostalgic combat option without changing the rest of vanilla gameplay.
