The Mute plugin adds a practical moderation tool to a Java Minecraft server, allowing staff to temporarily prevent selected players from sending chat messages. Moderators can usually define a duration and reason, then restore access with an unmute command. Permission nodes separate muting and unmuting rights, while bypass permissions keep staff or trusted ranks able to communicate.

Depending on configuration, the restriction can also cover private messaging and other chat related commands, with customizable notices and optional mute announcements.
