ViaBackwards is a Velocity proxy plugin that lets older Minecraft Java Edition clients join a server running a newer version. Working with ViaVersion, it translates protocol data between client and server versions, helping communities keep players together without changing the server’s core gameplay.
It supports a broad range of Java versions and is designed for cross version networks using Velocity. Older clients can access modern servers, although features, blocks, items, sounds, or interface elements introduced later may be translated, simplified, or unavailable. At BoxToPlay, we offer this compatibility layer as part of a smoother Minecraft server experience for mixed version communities.
