Wooden Elytra, early flight with a risk

Wooden Elytra is a Forge mod for Minecraft Java Edition that adds an accessible, early game alternative to the traditional elytra. Designed for survival adventures and a Minecraft server, it lets players glide before reaching the End while keeping flight deliberately limited. The wooden wings have 80 durability by default, and their recipe can be adjusted with CraftTweaker.

The main quirk is altitude based wear. Durability drops faster as you climb, and above Y 230 by default, the wearer can catch fire. Feathers appear progressively as the wings deteriorate, offering a useful visual warning. At BoxToPlay, we see it as a charming way to make exploration more mobile without making endgame flight completely obsolete.
