Torches, lanterns, soul variants, redstone lights, glowstone, froglights, end rods, and many other luminous items illuminate the area while held, making cave exploration, mining, and nighttime travel more immersive without placing torches every few blocks. You can also move torches and lanterns to the second hand by pressing Jump and Crouch together, leaving your main hand available for a pickaxe, weapon, or shield.
