Developer’s note: Reduce CPU usage when no players are online. (For small, home-hosted servers)

Hibernate, reduce idle CPU usage

Hibernate is a lightweight Java plugin for Bukkit, Spigot, and compatible Minecraft server software. When no players are online, it deliberately slows or freezes server activity, reducing CPU use to around one percent in suitable small, home hosted setups. This helps save electricity and leaves more processing power for other applications.

The server returns to normal activity when a player joins, although the first connection may occasionally require another attempt. Administrators can also toggle hibernation with a command when background tasks must continue. BoxToPlay recommends it for private servers that remain empty for long periods, rather than busy communities or services requiring constant ticking.
