Rhino is a Minecraft Java mod based on a fork of Mozilla’s Rhino JavaScript engine, adapted for modded environments. It provides the runtime that compatible mods use to interpret JavaScript and connect scripts with Java classes during gameplay. Rather than adding blocks, items, or biomes by itself, Rhino supplies important technical foundations for scripting tools such as KubeJS.
On a Minecraft server, it supports scripts for managing events, recipes, items, blocks, world generation, and integrations with other mods. It works across several mod loaders and can run on the client, the server, or both. At BoxToPlay, we consider Rhino an essential dependency for many script based modpacks.
