ViaBackwards, multi version compatibility for Minecraft servers
ViaBackwards is a protocol translation plugin that lets older Java Edition clients join a newer Minecraft server without downgrading. Paired with ViaVersion, it intercepts packets and backports blocks, items, and entities so players on versions starting from 1.9 can connect to servers from 1.10 and above while keeping gameplay stable and lightweight.
Server owners use it to keep communities together during version transitions, avoid fragmenting worlds, and offer long term support for favorite releases. On our infrastructure at BoxToPlay, it is the ideal choice when you want a smooth multi version survival, creative, or minigame experience.
