Minecraft 1.21.11 : Mounts of Mayhem
Version 1.21.11, nicknamed Mounts of Mayhem, is now available on BoxToPlay!
This update puts mounts and mounted combat at the heart of gameplay, with new creatures to tame, a brand new weapon type, and far more dangerous enemies in deserts and underwater environments.
The Nautilus
The Nautilus has arrived! This new marine creature is perfect for underwater exploration.
It can be found in ocean biomes. Once tamed using a pufferfish, you can equip it with a saddle and move underwater using a powerful dash.
Very useful bonus: while riding it, you gain the Nautilus Breath effect, which pauses oxygen consumption as long as you stay mounted.
Zombie Nautilus
The Zombie Nautilus is the undead version of the Nautilus.
It spawns underwater with a Drowned riding it, armed with a trident, so be ready for a true three dimensional fight.
There is also a rare variant called the Coral Zombie Nautilus, found in warm oceans.
Nautilus Armor

You can equip your Nautilus with armor made of copper, iron, gold, diamond, and netherite.
Copper, iron, gold, and diamond armors can be found in certain chests such as shipwrecks, ocean ruins, and buried treasures.
The netherite version is obtained at the smithing table by upgrading diamond armor.
The Lance
The lance is introduced as a new tiered weapon, craftable in multiple materials including wood, stone, copper, iron, gold, and diamond, with a netherite version available via the smithing table.
It offers two attack styles:
- Thrust (left click): fast and useful to keep enemies at a distance
- Charge (hold right click): a powerful attack whose effectiveness depends on your accuracy and speed, even more fun while mounted
It also adds an exclusive enchantment:
- Momentum (I, II, III): provides a strong burst of speed on certain hits, perfect to surprise or catch up to a target
The Camel Husk
The Camel Husk is a new undead camel variant.
It can spawn in deserts with two hostile riders on its back, turning a simple ride into a deadly ambush.
The Parched
The Parched is a new desert skeleton.
It does not burn in sunlight and attacks with a bow using weakness arrows.
It is often the second rider on the Camel Husk, so do not let it keep firing while you deal with the other rider.
Zombie Horses Now Spawn Naturally
Zombie horses are no longer just a spawn egg curiosity.
They can now naturally spawn at night in certain biomes, sometimes with a zombie rider equipped with a lance.
Once the rider is defeated, you can tame them like a normal horse and equip them with a saddle and armor.
Netherite Horse Armor
A true end game protection for your mount: netherite horse armor.
It is obtained by upgrading diamond horse armor with a netherite ingot and an upgrade template at the smithing table.
Mounts Can Now Swim
Good news: horses and other mounts no longer sink like anvils while riding them.
You can now cross water while staying mounted, at a slower pace without sprinting or jumping, but it is a huge quality of life improvement for exploration.
Graphic Improvements
Minecraft 1.21.11 also adds new video options:
- Texture Filtering
- Anisotropic Filtering
In short: cleaner looking textures at long distances or sharp angles, with a potential cost in performance and video memory depending on your setup.
