VPNGuard is a Bukkit and Spigot plugin designed to stop players from joining a Minecraft server through a VPN, proxy, or another anonymizer. It checks the connecting IP address and can kick users identified as belonging to a hosting organization, helping reduce bots, spam, and other unwanted activity before it reaches the server.
The plugin relies on a privately managed blocking list that is updated regularly, along with local caching for repeated checks. It also offers lookup commands, whitelist options, bypass permissions, logging, country controls, and custom commands for rejected connections. At BoxToPlay, we see it as a practical access control layer, although IP based detection can occasionally produce false positives.
