Folia Minecraft server type

Folia is a specialized Minecraft server type based on Paper that restructures the game engine around regionized multithreading. Instead of one main thread handling the entire world, Folia divides the map into independent regions that tick in parallel across multiple CPU cores, greatly improving performance when many players are spread out.

This architecture targets large survival or skyblock communities, where stable TPS and smooth chunk loading matter most. It requires plugins that respect Folia’s threading model, but when used correctly it offers higher scalability, less lag during exploration and more consistent gameplay, which is exactly the kind of experience we aim to provide at BoxToPlay.
